Why do local elections matter?
For people who aren’t marginalized, it is very easy to say “well, most of that stuff in Washington doesn’t affect me, so I don’t care” because they’re correct, they are not affected. However, lots of folks are. People are literally trying to stop good, kind humans from using a bathroom in public. That is not acceptable. If you find yourself in a position where you’re daily life is affected by Washington or if you want to provide help for those folks, we need more progressives at the local level. Everyday we can try to make the world a little more comfortable for our neighbors. Even little things, like including those minority communities in decision making can make a world of difference.
We use the roads and the parks. We jog on the trails and get gas on Roswell Road. There are other things we can work on locally as well. Allocating budgets for schools and municipal projects can come from voices that know what is actually needed. Sometimes we don’t have the time or ability to wait for Federal Aid (not that any will be coming) or even state funds. So when we elect progressives to local government, we can make little differences every day and build a stronger community.
Ways To Support Local Libraries:
With Federal Budget cuts and gutting of the Institute of Museum and Library services, our libraries are in danger of losing valuable funding that allows them to provide all the wonderful services they provide. Sandy Springs has an excellent library and we must protect it. How can you help make sure that these cuts do not affect Fulton County libraries? Here are a few links:
A great organization that looks to protect and grow our libraries here in Fulton County, Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Foundation
The state of Georgia provides funding for libraries but often rely on federal funding. They have a page dedicated to Library Advocacy
